Tomorrow, Tomorrow...

Wednesday, July 17, 2013

Tomorrow morning, at daybreak, my flight will take off from Newark headed for San Francisco. I will be alone, I am sure I will be an emotional mess having left behind Chloe, Oliver and Matt for two weeks. Hopefully I will be able to regain some composure on the 6 hour flight. In San Francisco, I will meet up with my sister and together we will take the flight across the Pacific Ocean to Beijing. We will leave San Francisco on Thursday morning and arrive some 12 ½ hours later---which will be Friday evening in Beijing. We will then board our third flight, an Air China flight heading 642 miles due north to Harbin and Emma Claire.

Seven years, 6 months, 23 days from signing the agency contract to begin our second Chinese adoption to actually holding Emma Claire in our arms. It’s a long time, but those 2,762 days of waiting will all be a distant memory—all the anguish, the worrying, the hurry up and wait will vanish at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, July 22. (That’s Sunday, July 21 at 9:30 p.m. EST in the United States) and we will begin the most exciting part of this long journey—life as a family of five with this beautiful little girl born in Suihua, China.
